As I inform you before, I'm a member and an active volunteer of the Vancouver Orchid society. On March 26-27 we had a show and sale. Couldn’t resist buying one or two or ... more plants. The lure is too great.
Let's see what did I buy.
Paph. bellatulum x wenshanense Sakaki
I was a little bit disappointed. I was told, and the picture showed, the flower should've been white or yellow with dots. However, it doesn't have any dots. So, I wrote email to the seller, and received a very detailed reply, which satisfied me. Here the answer: "When you get into Paph. breeding they are done from crossing one plant with another and the resulting seed progeny, just like our own children can all look different but the name stays the same.
This is why if you want an identical plant you must try to purchase a mericlone and then it will be identical to the parent plant and usually at a considerable price increase as mericloning Paphs is extremely difficult and the numbers of plants produced are not commercially viable.
You should take this plant to the next meeting and see what interest it garners on the show table and it should definitely be entered in a show if it flowers at the right time.
In my opinion it has great form, I love the filigree petals, has great colour and good overall shape and balance.
I would say it took more of the wenshanense parent than the bellatulum as some variations of the wenshanense parent have no spots at all.
Having said all this you may get markings on the next flowering, unlikely but you never know. As far as I can tell you have a Paph. Sakaki and am pleased that you like it." So, it is good to know. Now I'm happy and not disappointed any more :-)
The next plant, Phal. Sedirea japonica.
Lovely plant! It smells like lemon peels in sugar.
Also, I bought C Chief Gem 'Red Jewel'
It's so cute! isn't it?
Have a look at this gorgeous Pot. Young-Min Orange 'Golden Satisfaction'.
Without hope of escape, I wasn't buying it!
Moreover, I bought 3 no-blooming plants. I will show you what did I buy, and pictures of their flowers from the Internet.
The first one is FDK After Dark 'Black Pearl'
The flowers are amazing! It is not often you can see orchids with black flowers. Looking at these flowers on the picture I was sold.
The next one is Cycnodes Wine Delight
It's so beautiful and has a big and a very rich dark red flowers.
And, the last one in this bunch is Cymbidium Erythraeum x Dayanum var Simonslanum
I like Cymbidiums. This, particular one, requires different care compare with my other Cymbidiums. Look at these flowers! Hopefully, I will able to make it bloom.
