The Reason of My Addiction is ... Orchids!!!

You know what does an addiction mean, don’t you?

I want to be honest with you, I’m addicted, and the reason of my addiction is ORCHIDS!! Because of that, I decided to be closer to the reason of my addiction, and recently  I’ve become a member of the Vancouver Orchid Society.

Let me present this organisation to you.

THE HISTORY.

The VOS is one of the oldest orchid societies in Canada and its achievements are due to the hard work of its volunteers.

In 1946 Mr.R.B. Luscher organized a number of orchid enthusiasts to meet informally as a group.  In 1951 the membership roster numbered 20 members who met regularly in each other’s homes.

WHAT does the VANCOUVER ORCHID SOCIETY do?

The VOS remains dedicated to promote the education and the love of orchids.

It provides the information about diversity of orchids, how to take care  of them. The annual orchid show offers visitors an opportunity to see a rotating display of hundreds of orchids.No picture can do justice to an orchid!  Seeing them on a website or at a store (where very limited types of orchids are for sale) simply cannot convey the beauty, size, texture or fragrance of orchids. Therefore, the VOS is organizing for you this kind of events.

MEMBERSHIP & VOLUNTEERING

The VOS is volunteer organization. All members are encouraged and expected to volunteer and be able to assist:

Raffle	Show planning
Plant sales	Show setup
Library	Show security
Kitchen	Show admission
Membership	Show displays

Membership entitles you to monthly meetings, culture classes where you can learn how to grow your orchids and ask any culture questions, the newsletters, and invitations to any special events.
