There is my avocado tree I grow from a seed. It is a 3 year old plant. It's already reached the ceiling.
There is nothing complicated to grow this gorgeous plant at home if you follow these simple steps.
1. Buy a ripe fruit in the grocery store.
2. Wash up the seed.
3. Take your avocado seed and gently press it into the moist soil, until it is about halfway covered. Keep the wider end down.
4. Keep the soil moist in the warm place.
I’d recommend you using a peat pot.
The peat pot is formed in a cup-shaped peat, and used as a temporary container for growing seedlings of various of plants. Using peat cups prevents damage to the root system of plants while planting it on a permanent pot that accelerates the development of the plant.
5. When the roots go out from the bottom of the peat-pot you should put the peat-pot in a ceramic or plastic pot.
Put drainage in the bottom of the new pot. Drainage is critical to the plant health. I use gravel or shingle.
And finally, put a little bit soil on the gravel, then put there the peat-pot, and fill with soil empty space of the pot.
So, you are done.
Avocado loves full sun and partial shade. Accustom your young plant to the sun gradually.
Avocado does not tolerate drying out of the soil and like to frequent spraying the leaves.
In order to feed your avocado tree use comprehensive balanced fertilizer with a nitrogen content. Fertilize the plant should be not less than once per season.
According my personal experience, the minimum temperature for avocados +0 C
On the following picture you can see another avocado tree. I cut it off more than half because it had a long 1.5m, thin and leafless stalk.
Now it looks much better.
If you have any questions do not hesitate to ask me, and I will reply as soon as possible.
