Christmas Cactus.

I love the Cristmass cactuses! Their flowers may be violet, red, pale pink, orange or white. I have a red one, pale pink, and white. Now hunting the orange one.
The plant has different names: Zygocactus. Cactaceae. Christmas Cactus.
Name from the Greekzyfos, yoke, and cactus. It still frequently called Epiphyllum or Schlumbergera.
Note, the difference between this plant and the Easter Cactus, Rhipsalidopsis. Simular in segmented stem growth as Zygocactus and just as easy to grow, but instead of blooming in winter Rhipsalidopsis bloom spring thru summer.
Origin.
A number of species grow on trees in eastern Brazil.
In winter the plant may be brought indoors, but in summer keep it outside.

The plant will flourish only if the correct  resting periods are observed.
While it's flouring the Christmass cactus  may be kept in the living room. After the plant must be given a resting period of at least 5-6 weeks or more. The temperature should now be lower, down to 15C, and the water supply reduced just enough being given to prevent the joints from shriveling.
In the period of active grow the compost must never dry out. When it's flouring water the plant sparingly. For the rest of the year  keep it as dry as possible.
Apply cactus fertilizer every 2 weeks.

If you have any questions do not hesitate to ask me, and I will repy as soon as possible.
