Dendrochilum wenzelii Culture

Dendrochilum wenzelii is an unusual orchid.
This species is very common in cultivation in Australia, South Africa, USA, Brazil, The Philippines and Europe.
It found in the Philippines in forest from 500 to 1000. Plant is found in warm areas with partial shade. Plant can be grown from cool to warm areas with medium to bright light.

Someone says that this plant nearly doubles in size every year.

Keep it in 70-80% shade and a plant can easily grow with night time temperatures as low as 6 degrees Celsius. It loves to be outside. This species is very prone to 'sulking' if its roots are disturbed. This species is sensitive to water quality, for the waterings and the nebulisations use rainwater. Water regularly in summer, slightly less in winter, but without having the compost to dry up.

Fertilize it very weakly every second water.

Pot with fine bark and perlite or sphagnum moss.

Divisions should be fairly large, more than 10 growths, and old mix should be carefully teased from the roots to damage them as little as possible.

Finally, this guy is blooming for me.
I kept it in a cool condition.
The flowers are not fully opened yet

I know, It doesn't look like that, the picture I took from the Internet, but it's coming ;-)

If you have any questions do not hesitate to ask me, and I will reply as soon as possible.
